At West Country Tiling we offer the perfect package for the repair, refurbishment and maintenance of Georgian style roofs. With our in-house lead making and scaffolding services to support our excellent team of master-craftsmen, we can offer you the full package all under one roof!

The majority of Bath’s city centre buildings were built in the 18th and early 19th centuries from the iconic local, golden-coloured Bath stone. The traditional Georgian roof is tiled or slated hipped mansard, this means the roof sloped upwards from all the sides of the building. This style of roof often comes with embellished cornices and decorative mouldings, paired chimneys, internal drainage, parapets, box guttering and lead lining.

These particular architectural features of a Georgian roof mean that, if you require any repairs or maintenance, you will need an experienced team with expert knowledge of how to work with them.

The full package

Under the leadership of Master-Roofer Toby Pitt, West Country Tiling has over 30 years of knowledge and professional knowhow. When contracting us you will be hiring a reputable firm who can offer you a full package of services, saving you the hassle of contracting separate roofers, lead manufactures and scaffolders. Using us to deliver these services means the project is more likely to cost you less and be more time efficient then using multiple suppliers.

Our Master Roofers

All of our Master Roofers have served a full apprenticeship, having started with us when they left school. Our master craftsman repair, refurbish, restore and re-roof only to the highest standards.

We specialise in ecclesiastical work (churches make up almost 40% of our turnover), but we also work on schools, historic buildings for the National Trust, private clients, architects, builders and developers around the Bath area.

Some of our roofing services are delivered in conjunction with an architectural firm. We’ve been nurturing our architectural relationships for over 30 years, and these architects work with us time and time again because we always take the time to complete the job properly.

Roofing services carried out within the Bath area include the American Museum, the former school Bluecoat House and King Edward’s School.

The re-roofing of Kind Edward’s School is a typical example of one of our bigger projects.  The contract period was 8 months and involved:

  • a full canopy scaffold
  • complete re-design and re-building of the gutters and dormers
  • insulation
  • new Welsh slating
  • 12 tonnes of sand-cast lead
  • some very delicate masonry restoration
