Good question! I’ve been in this business for over thirty years and things have changed somewhat. The Yellow Pages book is out, and trade comparison websites are in. But can you really trust all those “accredited” roofers out there? Well, in my opinion, not really. So, how can you find a trustworthy roofer?

Three quote system

It used to be that private clients would usually get three quotes before choosing a roofer. The first would most likely be a recommendation from a friend, family member or a work colleague who had used someone before. The second was probably from a contractor’s van that you’d seen driving around in your area or you got stuck behind on your way to work. The third from a roofer you found in the Yellow Pages.

The likely outcome of getting these three quotes would be that you’d pick the personal recommendation and there would be a happy outcome.

The “accreditation” scam

These days it’s all about the “trade checking” websites or “we’ll do the searching for you” type thing. But do these accreditations actually mean anything? No. Traders can buy listing on these sites without any formal qualifications or roofing experience. In fact, anyone can buy a van, paint “roofer” on the side of it and start touting for business

However, some accreditations are legitimate, and the awarding bodies carry out annual checks or vet their members. When researching a new roofer online, look out for TrustMark, National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC), Competent Roofer or Lead Contractors Association (LCA).

How we demonstrate we are reliable and trustworthy roofers

We employ qualified roofers and take on trainee apprentices who gain their qualifications at college while working for us under the guidance of a Master Roofer.

We have the Trust Mark accreditation for Roofing and Leadwork Specialists, we’re members of Competent Roofer and the NFRC.

We answer the phone when you call, provide an accurate quote, turn up when we say we will and work hard when we’re on site.

That’s what people really want, a roofer who’s going it turn up and work hard, something my team and I have been doing since we started trading.
